Freestyle & Slow dance

Freestyle dance became popular with the hit movie Saturday Night Fever staring John Travolta but has evolved greatly from this era. Today movements are very earthy and involve a large amount of technique combined with speed, strength and suppleness. Dancers can dance freestyle for examinations, shows, fitness and fun or can take their dancing a step forward and be involved in freestyle competitions which are held around the UK all year.

We at Expressions run classes structured for age groups and abilities in freestyle for those children wanting to take examinations twice yearly with the I.D.T.A. and also children are able to take part in our annual show at the Palace Theatre Mansfield. For those dancers that want to compete, private tuition is available for solos, pairs and trios. Special technique classes are held on a Tuesday and a competition class is held on a Wednesday. Freestyle is a popular choice for pupils wanting to express themselves.

Slow dance is a way of lyrical Expressions through slow music. Technique is vital and ballet training enhances this to the full. This graceful and elegant form of dance can be used for examinations shows and for competitions as above. Private tuition is available for this form of dance.
